"Helping You Make Smart Financial Decisions”
Steve joined the SHC Financial team in January 2005 after over 24 years as an audit partner and CPA in an international accounting firm. During his public accounting career he worked closely with business owners and corporate management teams of growing businesses to address their financial opportunities. Helping businesses succeed was his primary focus. Many times this involved accessing the capital markets for debt and equity funding, managing relationships with key finance sources, solving complex executive compensation issues, and explaining complex transactions to investors, employees and funding sources. In his corporate career, Steve worked to maintain trusted relationships while understanding objectives, setting clear goals and developing plans to achieve those goals.
Since joining SHC in 2005, Steve has worked to serve individual clients and their families by helping set clear goals and objectives seeking a successful financial future. Steve uses a holistic approach to understand everything a client owns, owes, earns and spends to create a clear picture of the current state. He then asks questions to understand what is important to the client and where a client wants to be in five, ten and twenty years. Once the desired destination is identified, a plan for the management of a client’s assets and their investment portfolio can be developed and implemented. While at SHC, Steve and his business partners have worked to create a systematic, non-emotional, active investment management process that seeks to meet a client’s financial goals by protecting what they have earned, managing the many risks inherent in financial markets, and seeking investment growth in a reasonable and conservative manner.
Steve graduated with honors from the University of Texas in 1980 and from the Harvard Business School Owner/President Management Program in 1996. At Harvard, Steve was part of a group of 100 business owners from around the world, and it is here he became keenly aware of the personal needs of business owners and his interest in serving them. Businesses in transition were Steve’s primary focus in his public accounting career, and business owners and key executives in transition are his primary interest now. Applying a personal CFO approach to help successful business owners, executives and their families identify and select financial objectives, model economic consequences of financial choices, and becoming a catalyst to implement selected strategies best describe Steve’s financial planning approach.
Steve resides in the Seattle, Washington area with his wife Patrice. They have three children. He has been actively involved with youth sports as a coach and board member and currently is a board member of Sound Generations. Steve is an avid Texas Longhorn and Seattle Mariner fan. His hobbies include golf, travel, beginner guitar and reading.
