Tom joined SHC in 2017 after over two decades of running money as a proprietary
trader and former hedge fund manager. He is a trend-following, technically based risk
manager. Ride winners cut losers, measure and manage risk. Repeatably. This is the
way. Tom’s methods include quantitative, systematic programs. At SHC we define our
buy, sell, and position size rules to manage risk and protect client assets.
As an active manager, he successfully navigated some of the largest bear markets
since his start in 1994. These rough waters included 2000, 2008, and the 2020
Covid Crash. In 2014 Tom formalized his in-the-financial-trenches knowledge by
obtaining the Chartered Market Technician designation. For seven years he co-chaired
the Austin chapter of the CMT Association.
Tom resides in Williamson County of central Texas with his wife Jessica. They’re empty
nesters caring for a rescue cattle dog and calico cat. His hobbies include running 10k’s
with their red heeler, agility/obedience training, and advanced martial arts.
